The Davidson family lived in Findhorn, Moray, Scotland, where Robert Davidson was a sailor. His wife Margaret appears to have come from nearby Forres. Apart from Alexander, the children's births were all registered in Kinloss Parish. Alexander was registered in Forres as it appears that his father was working as a seaman in Aberdeen at the time.

It is interesting to note that the witness names largely align with Margaret's siblings names.

I have found a number of records which could be for the children, for example Russell's Morayshire register of 1852, has two Robert Davidsons in Findhorn in the Kinloss parish, one a baker and the other a wood merchant.

IGI Records:

There were several Robert Davidsons in Findhorn at the time, and so at this stage we cannot be sure that this record from the IGI is the correct one.

Again I have no proof that this is the correct Margaret, but she fits well with the evidence:
  • the Innes name recurring in one of their children's names
  • she is the only one on record as born in Forres at the right time
  • her siblings name closely match witnesses at the children's christenings

There was only one Robert Davidson in Kinloss in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

Keeping in mind the rounding to the nearest 5 years in birth date in the 1841 census, this fits with Robert and his mother. Robert snr had died 2 years earlier.
