Francis was the first family member with a connection with the Raynhams, he was born at Stratton Strawless and married Susan Lord, daughter of Francis Lord at , about 30 miles due west of Stratton. The photograph of St Margaret's on the Harper history page looks directly east, towards East Raynham, from the eastern outskirts of West Raynham. They were married at West Raynham even though the church was falling into disrepair, from the history of St Margaret's ...

"This church was first built in the 11th century and extended in the 14th century. It fell into ruin from the 1720's when the roof lead was removed to help pay for the restoration of S. Mary's, East Raynham."

... however marriages continued there until the 1760s.

Their youngest son John married Hannah Powley, daughter of John Powley of (about 10 miles to the South of the Raynhams).
