Steward of Wells - Early History
Introduction
This section of the website is entirely the work of TC of Romford who has researched the origins and genealogy of the early Steward family in considerable detail. To the best of my knowledge, his is the most extensive and is certainly the most accurate account of the Steward genealogy in existance.

The information presented here is an overview, TC hopes to publish a book on the family containing the details of their history, which I look forward to with great interest, watch this space!

I would therefore like to thank TC for giving me his permission to publish his work here. While the link between the Stewards of Wells and the Steward family of Great Yarmouth remains a mystery, TC's research certainly make certainly make it far more likely that one day we will be able to unravel the missing links.

We would be very interested in your feedback and in any additions that you may have. You can contact TC through me by using 'Contact Me' in the footer on each page. (or add TC's email address here if he would like it public)

Terminology
In order to make it easier to follow, generations are numbered S1, S2 ... down the generations, following a number of other Steward websites. This terminology is also used on my own page describing this family.

Numbering is started at S1 from the first of the Stewards, Alexander, the fourth Lord High Steward of Scotland.

Note that this numbering should not be confused with that used elsewhere on this website where a different numbering scheme: G1, G2 ... is used, with the numbers running in the opposite direction, increasing as we go back in time.

I have added a few notes to help clarify the genealogy. These are always in square brackets [...].
