This map shows the locations of some Parishes and Townlands in Northern Ireland. Markers show some places of interest.

If the program slows down or you get error messages, Clear or Reset the map and then select just the areas you are interested in.

Parish Outlines

• The .. Display Parishes .. menu controls the display of parishes and townlands. You can select a parish, all parishes in a county or to clear the display.
• The map is centered on the selected Parish or County.
• Icons On / Off toggles the display of descriptive Icons.
• For clarity, parish icons are only displayed at zoom level 10 or higher and townland icons are only displayed at zoom level 12 or higher.
• Positioning the Mouse on an icon shows the Parish and County names or the Townland and Parish names in the information box at the top right of the map.
• Clicking on an Icon opens it's Information Window.

Markers

• Markers On / Off alternately displays all markers / clears all markers
• Click on a Marker to open it's Information Window.
• Doubleclick on a Marker to open it's Information Window and zoom closer.
• Click on a photo in an Information Window to see the full sized image
• To show just the markers you are interested in, you can filter the display (based on the text in the Information Window):
  • To select makers, enter the text in the .. select markers .. box and then press 'Enter'
  • To add more markers, enter the text in the .. add markers .. box and then press 'Enter'
• Clicking on the <, *, > buttons centers the map on the previous / first / next marker and opens it's Information Window
• To return to the initial display, click Reset
• To use the Google Map Search, enter the place you want to find in the .. search map .. box and then press 'Enter'

• Markers are coded:

  • Churches: +
  • Structures: * (buildings, bridges, memorials etc)
  • Places: ^ (towns, landscapes etc)
  • Family homes: first letter of surname

General

• The Map, Satellite, Hybrid buttons (top right on the map) let you choose to display maps and / or satellite photos.
• To pan: use the buttons (top left of the map), click and drag with the mouse or use the cursor and page up/down keys.
• To zoom: use the slide (top left of the map) or double-click (away from a marker) to zoom in.
• The information box (top left of the map) shows the cursor position, number of displayed Markers, zoom level and summary information of the marker under the mouse pointer.
• The small map (bottom right of the map) shows the location of the larger map and allows you to pan by dragging the box. It can be open and shut with the arrow at the bottom right corner.
